About Karli

I am a writer and historian living in Esperance, Western Australia. After falling in love with the fascinating stories from this region, I've spent years researching and writing about Esperance’s history. These stories, originally published in the Esperance Tide, were collated and expanded into my first book, East of 121: Five Minute Histories from Esperance.

In recent years, I've had the privilege of working with Jennene Riggs, writing and researching the documentary series Esperance Historic Homesteads. This seven-part series tells the story of Esperance through the historic homesteads in our region, combining video of stunning landscapes and beautiful old buildings with historic photographs, interviews, and fascinating stories.

My love of history extends beyond this region, and my podcast, Wild: Stories from Western Australia’s Past, shares some of the fascinating history of this state.

I live on a farm with my family, surrounded by dogs, chickens, cows, horses, and even a llama. I'm still writing about the history of this incredible place that I call home, as well as dabbling in many other projects, both fiction and non-fiction. When not working, I can usually be found pottering in the garden, tinkering on the guitar, or with my nose in a book.
